R.E
We have been learning about the Nativity and created a whole class Nativity scene.
We have been learning about the Nativity and created a whole class Nativity scene.
We continued our printmaking topic and sketched out simple designs to replicate onto a square cardboard tile. We then dipped string into glue and placed this on top of our design. When dry this will be our printing tile.
We started to learn about Advent the Christian season and how it is a time for preparation and anticipation, celebrating the birth of Jesus. The season in typically a time for reflection that involves lighting candles on an advent wreath to symbolise hope, peace, love, joy and the son of God. we chose candle pictures to colour in and made a class wreath.
We created a design and copied this using a blunt pencil onto a polystyrene tile. We then rolled paint onto the tile and pressed it onto paper to reveal our print on paper.
In Computing we used the keyboards to write sentences ensuring we had capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.
We have been solving subtraction maths problems. We used cubes to support learning and moved on to pictorial representation. We drew bar models and part, part whole models to identify the parts and went on to record these as a subtraction calculation. We also used pictures to then write subtraction stories.
We have been working on 3 musical monsters of Pitch, Rhythm and Tempo. We added actions to a song and played the glockenspiels in time to the beat and changed the the notes to high and low notes changing the pitch and did so in time to the beat.
INFANT TO JUNIOR APPLICATIONS
All current Year 2 parents if you haven’t already done so, you need to complete an Infant to Junior application by 15th January 2026.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The year 1 children have now taken their maths boxes home, and this week the teachers have put a list of tasks to complete weekly, between now and the end of term. We hope you enjoy having a look at how we do maths in school!
In Art we looked at rangoli patterns and identified repeating shapes and motifs explored patterns in Indian art.
We learned about tempo today and changed the speed of the music to sing to. We then incorporated our other musical monsters of Pitch and Rhythm. We used the glockenspiels to play music and noted when the pitch changed.
In R.E we listened to the story of Rama and Sita and then made Diva lights out of clay. We shall paint these once they are dry.
We created poppies for Remembrance Day.
We learned about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We then wrote about the plot in sequence and why we celebrate bonfire night on the 5th November.
We have been learning about the gunpowder plot and used bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and coloured dye to create fizzy firework pictures.
Class 2 have been working on team building skills.
They had to get from one side of the hall to the other using the mats. If they touched the floor they had to start again. It was lots of fun!
It was wonderful to see the children all working together.
Some of our Year 2 children took part this week in an athletics event. This was was organised by the Telford Schools Sports Partnership and was held at Telford College. The children had to work as a team to complete a carousel of 7 activities. The activities were scored, and we were competing against other schools. They all had a great time, and we were proud of enthusiasm they showed. There will be other Sports Partnership events later in the school year for the other Year 2 children who didn’t go this time.
This week Class 2 have been looking at how to keep healthy. We have recapped the importance of a balanced diet. We set up minute circuits to see how we felt after exercise. Our hearts were beating faster after exercise. Our cheeks were red after the activities.
We were all friendly robots and moved robotically to the beat. We sang and song about the robot and identified the pitch as rising or falling. We then used glockenspiels to play the falling notes from the song.
We have been learning about rhythm and composed our own long and short notes to add to a beat to create rhythm. These were in the form of pictorial and we sang and clapped them depending on if they were short of long sounds.
We took part in a live online safety workshop with other schools. The session focused on understanding how to keep personal information private when online, such as passwords and PINs. The children worked well on the tasks given and showed good understanding. We thought about ways we do this in our everyday like such as in our homes and schools and community and why it is just as important to keep safe online too. We looked for locks, keys and passwords that were in an image to try and spot ways to keep our information secure. We discussed what was okay and not okay to share online.
Thank you to everyone for bringing in a donation of food to go to the local Food Bank. Mrs Judd Kindly dropped in the donations. We hope you also enjoyed our Harvest Service in Church.
We started to make our shoe box diorama's based on the story of Peter and the Wolf. Over the last couple of weeks we have used this story as a basis for our writing in English and so the children were very involved and enjoyed creating their dioramas. They started with a shoe box then added the setting to the back of the box. Then they carefully cut out each character. The children are looking forward to completing their theatres next week.
In computing we had a go at using a mouse to make marks using the paintz app.
This week Class 2 have been looking at illustrators and how they create their art work. In colour groups we covered paper in colour and made marks using different tools.
We have been focussing on a musical monster called Pitch we listened for high and low notes and used our hands to indicate as the pitch climbed higher and lower. We then used claves to tap out the beat. We listened to a piece of music and pretended to be elephants counting 1,2,3,4 as we marched, in time to the beat.
Class 2 have been jumping into their new learning this week!
The children worked on bringing their knees up to do tuck jumps. They worked on broad jumps across the river. Also, they jumped high enough to almost touch the ceiling, well almost!
Our new topic is focused on Traditional Tales. Class 2 have started looking at the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have enjoyed using the role play puppets to retell the story. The children have created story maps to help sequence their retell. Then we ordered pictures showing the story and matched the pictures with sentences or used our writing skills to write complete sentences.
It was lovely to welcome children back to school and to see those new to Class 2 settle really well. We took a few photos as they were out during their first playtime.
